The Story of Sweat
Category:But, first I digress. I’ll bet you didn’t know that today is Big Wind Day. However, I will try to not be long winded.
To sweat is to be human, or something like that. Sweating has gotten a bad rap. It’s not a bad thing; it’s actually a beneficial function. Our bodies have sweat glands to regulate our body temperature and release toxins, and there are many health benefits to sweating. It has been used to support wellness in many civilizations over the ages. It can also support muscle recovery, skin health, and cardiovascular health.
Sweat is virtually odorless, but underarm wetness can create an environment that allows odor-causing bacteria to grow.
To deal with sweating, we have a choice of anti-perspirants or deodorants. Anti-perspirants temporarily block perspiration from glands by the use of aluminum salts. The problem is that this blocks the body’s natural process of perspiration. The other choice is a deodorant. Deodorants won’t stop sweating, but they can neutralize odor and absorb some or all wetness.
Deodorants have been on the market for a long time. Lately, there is growing interest in natural deodorants. I’ve heard that some work and some don’t. The ones that work may contain baking soda, which can be an irritant for some people.
To work well and not cause irritation, a healthy natural deodorant will offer protection against odor. First, It supports a healthy skin pH and microbiome. Second, it includes ingredients that neutralize and absorb odor. And, third, it has added natural powders to absorb underarm wetness.
